Spyro the Dragon - Character Design

Character designs done for a reimagining of the first game in the Spyro the Dragon franchise. The goal was to take the original PS1 designs and reinterpret them into something that would suit the "live action"/heavily realistic animated film trend of the modern day, hence why none of the designs directly mirror their cartoonier counterparts.

I imagine that it would be a fantasy adventure coming-of-age story that borrows some narrative elements from all incarnations of the video game series as well as old mythology concerning similar creatures.

This is my first time using artificial intelligence to aid in my design work. Each design is a combination of drawing, painting, photobashing, and rudimentary 3D modeling created with the experimental software Monstermash (http://monstermash.zone/#). "Sculpts" generated in Monstermash were used to render shading passes in Blender and speed along the painting process. Great fun!

Originally created in March and April of this year, 2021. Strictly a fan creation. The Spyro franchise was created by Insomniac Games and belongs to Toys for Bob.
